Our Story

The Salvation Army in Ontario has operated camps to serve children for over a hundred years! Each year thousands of children are brimming with excitement as they arrive at the Newport site in Muskoka and the Jacksons Point site on the shores of Lake Simcoe.

It was 1902 when The Salvation Army first began operating camps for 300 children in Oakville Ontario.  The camp was moved to Clarkson in 1910, and in 1916 the property was sold to purchase a farm Jacksons Point on the south shore of Lake Simcoe, which would become the site for The Salvation Army’s Fresh Air Camps.  For the next 100 years the camp would be a witness to the power of life-changing summer experiences for thousands of children each year. Today we continue that strong tradition of life-transforming experiences through the summer camps and year round retreats for children, youth and adults.

Camping has always been about stepping away from home to enjoy new adventures in the beauty of creation. It’s a place where people learn about the love of God for them. Camp offers many activities like swimming, canoeing, high ropes, sports, music and archery for youth ages 6-16.

Our desire is to create a fun, safe and caring environment where kids can be kids! We create a community where youth are encouraged to explore faith and ask questions. It is our belief that it is in a relationship with Jesus Christ and an understanding of God’s love that people are free to live life the way God intended. Campers and staff alike find direction and purpose for life here.

Our purpose is to serve the whole person, spiritually, mentally, socially and physically through a creative and fun experience in a camp setting.

Less than an hour away from the GTA, We provide retreat facilities available September through June for conferences, retreats, family getaways and school outings. It would be our pleasure to be that place where treasured memories are made!
